Poly Palms ist ein 2020 von Andreas O. Hirsch gegründetes Ensemble, das die Möglichkeiten seiner selbst entwickelten Zupfinstrumente gemeinsam erforscht. Die Elektrifizierten Palmwedel gehen auf eine Marokkoreise um die Jahrtausendwende herum zurück, bei der Hirsch entdeckte, dass vertrocknete Palmblätter das Potential natürlich gewachsener Kalimbas haben, da sich ihre Dornen zupfen und stimmen lassen. Hirsch entwickelte das Instrument über die Jahre weiter und nutzte es im Zuge von Soloperformances und Kooperationen mit anderen Instrumentalisten. Mit Poly Palms wird diese Arbeit nun im Ensemble erweitert. Abstrakt-geräuschhaftes versus rhythmische Strukturen, holzig-warme Klänge versus Palmtronix – Kammermusik am Übergang zwischen Oase, experimenteller Elektronik und Fluxus.

Poly Palms is an ensemble founded in 2020 by Andreas O. Hirsch that collectively explores the possibilities of his self-developed plucked instruments. The Electrified Palm Leaves date back to a trip to Morocco around the turn of the millennium, during which Hirsch discovered that withered palm leaves have the potential of naturally grown kalimbas, as their thorns can be plucked and tuned. Hirsch continued to develop the instrument over the years, using it in the course of solo performances and collaborations with other instrumentalists. With Poly Palms, this work is now being expanded in the ensemble. Abstract signals versus rhythmic structures, woody-warm sounds versus Palmtronix – peculiar chamber music at the transition between the oasis, experimental electronics and Fluxus.
